Initial Situation

Starting in May 2025, the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation (SIHF) gradually transitioned its fleet to electric mobility and commissioned 55 new electric vehicles. With the announced delivery of the first vehicles within a few weeks, there was a sudden need for a suitable, reliable, and nationwide charging solution. By May, 50% of the fleet was electrified, and the transition was fully completed by fall 2025.

An easy solution with minimal administrative effort was particularly important. A partner was sought who could cover all needs from a single source, from selecting the hardware to accessing a comprehensive public charging network and billing.

The main users of the vehicles are referees, employees, and national coaches. They are often on duty late at night and on weekends, traveling long distances across Switzerland. Therefore, Swisscharge's widely available and reliable charging infrastructure as well as many years of experience in electric mobility were crucial for successful implementation.

« We received expert guidance from the very beginning and benefited from having a single, consistent point of contact. The implementation was quick, professional, and absolutely reliable. A project delivered with excellence from A-Z.

Goals

Three primary use cases were identified: charging at headquarters using dedicated on-site infrastructure; charging on the go with costs consolidated into a single monthly invoice to SIHF; and, prospectively, charging at employees’ homes. Together, these measures support the transition to sustainable mobility.

Result

SIHF is the first Swiss sports federation to operate a fully electrified vehicle fleet. In early September 2025, the first charging sessions were completed at the 9 charging stations at the headquarters. Since then, around 20,000 kWh of electricity have been charged on-site, and the fleet has already covered more than 300,000 kilometers on the road. In total, the vehicles travel over one million kilometers per year - now fully electric and emission-free.

A key priority throughout the transition was comprehensive employee training to ensure a smooth transition to electric mobility. Among other initiatives, an internal overview of charging stations at and around Swiss stadiums was developed.

Today, the organization benefits from a scalable, reliable charging infrastructure that evolves alongside the fleet’s needs and enables referees and employees to focus entirely on the sport.

« With my electric vehicle, my everyday life is more efficient: I charge conveniently at home and rely on fast, dependable charging options while on the go. Electric mobility that delivers on every level.
