Public neighborhood charging stations in Basel-Stadt

Initial Situation

More than half of the cars registered in Basel-Stadt do not have a private parking space and are parked on the street. Therefore, expanding public charging stations is important for the transition to electromobility, especially in the blue zone.

Goals

Residents without their own parking options should have the opportunity to switch to an electric car thanks to public charging stations in the blue zone. Therefore, on behalf of the Canton of Basel-Stadt, IWB is setting up 200 neighborhood charging stations on public land. In addition to 170 AC charging stations, 30 DC charging stations will also be implemented.

Result

By the end of 2023, IWB has implemented 52 public AC charging stations and 5 DC charging stations on public land in Basel-Stadt. By the end of 2026, approximately 25 additional charging stations will follow every six months. The Alfen PG-line model type is used for the AC charging infrastructure; these charging stations are sourced through Swisscharge. Additionally, Swisscharge acts as the charging service provider for the public land charging stations and offers a 24/7 hotline for end users.
