About us
Since 2018, the Quarten Power Station has been strengthening the region’s public EV charging infrastructure in partnership with Swisscharge. With 11 AC charging stations now available, the project provides a convenient, reliable, and accessible charging solution for residents, commuters, and visitors alike. Drivers can charge their electric vehicles with ease and pay securely using TWINT, credit cards, and other widely used payment methods.
As far back as twelve years ago, the Quarten Electric Utility made a clear commitment to e-mobility by purchasing its first electric vehicle. When the development of a public charging infrastructure became concrete in 2018, the market was still in its early stages and suitable solutions were hard to find. Together with Swisscharge, the utility decided to push ahead with the expansion early on—long before demand reached today’s level. Although comparatively little charging took place in the first few years, one thing was clear: a high-performance charging infrastructure is a investment in the region’s future.
« The excellent collaboration with Swisscharge shows how shared values, professional expertise, and open exchange enable sustainable success.
Roland Zeller
Operations Manager, EW Quarten
The goal was to create a comprehensive public charging network in the towns of the service area and actively promote the growing shift to e-mobility. The search was for a solution that makes installation, operation and billing easy and proves reliable in everyday use. At the same time, charging should be as straightforward as possible for locals and visitors alike—with various payment options and strong service behind the scenes.
Today, Quarten Electric Utility operates a public charging network with 11 AC charging stations rated at 22 kW together with Swisscharge, and it is being expanded continuously. Together with regional partners, new locations are being created, including at the Flumserberg mountain railways. Swisscharge provides a turnkey plug-and-play solution including charging stations, operation, support, and centralized billing. Users can conveniently pay for their charging sessions with TWINT, credit card, and other common payment methods—an important advantage, especially for tourists. Around 80 percent of charging sessions come from out-of-town guests, while many locals now charge their electric vehicles at home. Since it went into operation, the solution has impressed with smooth performance. Or, as operations manager Roland Zeller puts it: “Almost 10 years without a single complaint!”
